Liz Hoenig Kanieski
Marketing Director

Liz is the lead on strategic marketing for The Business Guides. It’s her job to put a successful and cost effective marketing system in place. Liz takes a collaborative approach to planning, and knows the process is just as important as the final product. She helps the team identify measurable marketing goals and then puts tools in place to achieve them for the lowest possible cost. Liz uses Duct Tape Marketing by John Jantsch as a framework for marketing (one of Charley’s highly recommended business books). She works part-time as Marketing Director.

Liz built a long career in environmental science and policy, developing her talent for strategic planning and communications. For 25 years, she guided diverse teams of engineers, planners, and operations staff to develop long-range plans for stormwater, sewer and water utilities with the City of Olympia. Liz started her career as a field biologist, monitoring endangered bird and salmon species, and experienced how important good planning and community engagement was to the success of scientific research. In Olympia, she established the Stream Team program in 1990, which has contributed thousands of hours of volunteer time to stream restoration, science, and community outreach. Liz holds a B.S. from UC Davis and a Masters of Environmental Studies from The Evergreen State College.

Liz is an outdoor adventurer and naturalist, and shares a passion for exploring with her husband Charley Kanieski. She kayaks, rows, cycles, swims, and hikes – observing the dynamics of nature along the way. Her 14-year old son Aaron will tell you that getting outside for fresh air and exercise is at the top of her priority list, even when he’d rather stay inside. Liz volunteers with Aaron at Center Valley Animal Rescue, and also helps out at the Northwest Watershed Institute. She is also teaches a Les Mills RPM (indoor cycling) class at the local athletic club.
